Western Springs, Illinois, is a quiet bedroom community of over 12,600 residents and and only about 17 miles west of Chicago's Loop. Tucked between La Grange on the east, the Tri-state Tollway (I-294) on the west, as well as Bernis Woods Forest Preserve on the north and the town of Indian Head Park on the south, the village attracts couples in their 30s who want to raise kids in a solid family community. The centerpiece of Western Springs is the Village Green, which features the historic water tower, hence the community�s motto: �A Village of Towering Character.� The tower was built in 1892 from 156 carloads of Naperville stone. It is 112 feet tall and 36-1/2 feet in diameter at the base and has served the community in a variety of ways over the years. Currently the Tower is a museum maintained by the Western Springs Historical Society.
